RESOLVE is a co-creator of the CRAFT Code in collaboration with ARM. Since 2017, both organizations have been facilitating CRAFT development together with a coalition of experts and supply chain actors. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has referred to CRAFT as a tool for the implementation of the Due Diligence Guidance in ASM. This does not imply recognition as an OECD-aligned standard as per the OECD Alignment Assessment.

LBMA uses CRAFT as part of its LBMA Refiners Toolkit and ASM Self-Assessment Questionnaire. This questionnaire has been developed in conjunction with RAGS Forum and CRAFT.

The “Advancing reporting on responsible mineral sourcing” toolkit was developed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). CRAFT is referred to in this publication as a tool available for assessing due diligence in artisanal and small-scale mining.

The RJC Code of Practice Guidance for COP 14 provenance claims (p. 124-129) points out that “CRAFT is a code of progressive compliance. It is up to ASM producers themselves (or a related party) to make a CRAFT claim that can be verified by other parties such as the first buyer. Downstream companies that want to buy from these ASM producers can use the CRAFT Code for third-party verification if they want to, for example through an RJC-certified provenance claim”.

ARM works with CRAFT to support and guide men and women miners to CRAFT adoption and risk management to engage with formal markets. The first CRAFT implementations took place in Colombia, Honduras and Burkina Faso. ARM also uses CRAFT as a Due Diligence framework for ASM.

The planetGOLD Program, supported by the Global Environment Facility, developed a set of criteria for environmentally responsible mining in line with CRAFT requirements and included three specific criteria in its objectives. This achievement is in line with the CRAFT objective of facilitating the implementation of OECD Due Diligence Guidance in the ASM sector by engaging public and private actors to improve their mining practices.

The Consolidated Autonomous Due Diligence (CADD) framework is a toolkit for country stakeholders to report consistent information on the provenance of mineral and metal supply chains. CADD is based on CRAFT criteria to document risk management at ASM sites. CADD was created by BetterChain in conjunction with the Belgian organization HIVE now acting as custodians to make the framework public and open source.

CRAFT was included in the findings report on strengthening linkages between upstream incident collection and risk management project, in which “CRAFT was exceptional among the different standards as it also provides recommended mitigation measures for common upstream risks”.
